Work due for 10/3

1. Go to the drawing/art BOOK section of the library. Look at a number of different books.
  • Find a book about an artist whose work you respond to in some way. You love it. Hate it. etc. Look at their DRAWINGS.
  • Some examples of people to look at would be: Alberto Giacometti, Henry Moore, Edgar Degas, Peter Paul Rubens........
  • Spend time looking at the images of their work and find a line drawing they have done.
  • Then, find an example of the line drawing by them or one like it online. Save it.
  • Post it to our blog in a new post and explain why you find it interesting. (2 or 3 sentences. Make sure you edit for grammar and punctuation.)
2. In your small sketchbook: Draw three different angles of your hand. Using grid lines to establish:
  • proportions
  • direction of the form
  • value

Work due for 9/26

Set up a still life with at least 3 objects. Pick objects that interest you. Make sure to address issues of balance, visual dynamism and focal point.

In your small sketchbook draw the still life paying attention to the concepts we discussed in class:
  1.  composition
  2.  proportion
  3.  lines

Work due for 9/19

For our next class please do the following:
  1. In small sketchbook, draw 3 shoes (different shoes or different views of the same shoe) using contour line over gesture. Each object should be on a separate page.
  2. Study for quiz on Elements & Principles and types of line
  3. Purchase the supplies we discussed in class, and bring next week.
    1. 1 box Vine Charcoal (Willow Charcoal) 
    2. 1 18x24 Sketch Pad - (Must have at least 30 sheets per pad), Acid-free
    3. White charcoal stick or white charcoal pencil
    4. Some kind of case or container for your drawing tools

Welcome to Drawing I.

If you want to be in a hands-on, creative environment, where diligence and hard work will improve your drawing knowledge and skills, you are in the right place. Welcome!

For our next class, please do the following:
 
Homework:
1.     Read  Cultivating Creativity (pg. 1-5) found in Moodle.
2.     Answer the questions found below, on the reading, by leaving a comment before next Wednesday. Make sure you type your name before answering the questions in the comments, to receive credit.
3.     In small sketchbook: Find a reflective surface and draw it using line. (i.e. metal trash can, faucet, etc.) What can you see in the reflection? Tell a story with line…….
4.     Buy kit /supplies. for next week bring everything.
